How to Import Motorhomes and Caravans from Japan and the UK
Along from Karysma will share his experience importing motorhomes and camping cars from Japan. Currently, an Approval Permit (AP) is not required, making it accessible for anyone with the desire and ambition to do so.
Main Purchase Condition: Only cash purchases are accepted via Telegraphic Transfer (TT) to the supplier or used car dealer in Japan.

Total Import Costs:
- Motorhome price
- Shipping insurance and handling fee (CIF)
- Customs import duty tax
- Agent port clearance fee
- VTA JPJ and Puspakom inspection
- Road tax and vehicle insurance
Shipping and Handling:
- From the car shop to the port in Japan and then to Port Klang
- Costs approximately RM12k – RM15k depending on motorhome size, value, and distance from the dealer to the port.
Customs Tax:
- Import duty and sales tax paid through Customs K1 Form via an authorized Tax agent
- Customs clearance process to release the motorhome to the road
Legal Requirements:
- Road Transport Department of Malaysia (JPJ) and Puspakom regulations
- Appointment of a Certified Consultant to prepare a vehicle engineering plan for JPJ approval
- Consultant must be a registered JPJ panel member (e.g., Optimus Services 0198671793)
